The second edition of the CSPA Quarterly is close to publication! Â It will be available by the end of the month. Â The second issue focuses on international eco-policy; policy’s effect on the arts, and arts’ effect on policy. Â Events and installations from COP15 will be featured, including the CO2 Cube, the Seven Meters installations leading to the Bella Center, and others. Â

In celebration of the new year, we’ll be publishing last quarter’s articles to the blog. Â Keep your eye out for articles written by Sam Goldblatt, Moe Beitiks, Linda Weintraub, Patricia Watts, Thomas Rhodes, and Olivia Campbell. Â

Submissions are accepted year-round for the quarterly, and all content is volunteer-based. Â Articles, Academic Papers, Case Studies, and photos can be sent to me at: Miranda @SustainablePractice.org

We are pleased to announce the first edition of the CSPA Quarterly! This edition of The Quarterly explores sustainable arts practices in performance, visual art & installation, green touring, and eco-policy.Â Articles include â€˜Code Green: A Comparative Look at Worldwide Cultural Policies for Green Events,â€™ by Sam Goldblatt. This editionâ€™s featured artist is Dianna Cohen, a Los Angeles based multi-media artist who is best known for her works using recycled plastic bags. Other contributors include Moe Beitiks, Linda Weintraub, Patricia Watts, Thomas Rhodes, and Olivia Campbell.

ECO ART: Plastic Bottle Installation in NYC

Sometimes it is hard to truly grasp how much waste we create as a society. Thatâ€™s why NYC-based graphic design agency, MSLK is creating an installation that is an in-your-face visual of the amount of water bottles consumed in the United States. The installation uses 1,500 water bottles, the number of bottles consumed every 1 second â€” thatâ€™s 90,000 bottles per minute Entitled â€œWatershed,â€ the piece is meant to inspire its viewers to consider the collective environmental repercussions of drinking bottled water over tap. The installation is showing at the Figment Art Festival, open from June 12-14 on Governorâ€™s Island in New York City. Click through to see a video of the installationâ€™s assembly

Environmental conscious-ness has certainly strengthened in the past few years, but plastic, whether in the form of a bottle, bag or other types of packaging, are still everyday objects in most peopleâ€™s lives. Furthermore, most people arenâ€™t disposing of plastic responsibly: according to MSLK, 80% of water bottles still end up in the landfill. Not to mention the toxins that exist in plastic.
