Artist Conrad Atkinson has produced a limited edition print to support the activities of Liberate Tate. The new A1 sized work For BP  is now available to buy in a limited edition of 75. All the funds raised from the sale of this print will support the work of Liberate Tate. As a group concerned with issues around ethical funding choices, it is important that we raise our own funds responsibly. Liberate Tate members are dedicated to continuing our voluntary work to free art from oil, and all funds raised from the sale of these prints will go directly to support the material costs of our performances.

Conrad Atkinson has 10 works held in Tate’s collection. A well known trouble-maker and political artist, he even has two works held on display atDowning Street. His work often troubles power and makes explicit corporate and government hypocrisy. Emergence presents – World Café: A sustainable enquiry at WSD2013

Fern Smith and Rhodri Thomas co-founders of Emergence 
will facilitate a participatory inquiry into the role of the arts and artists as change-makers. World Café is an open and informal technique which uses the collective wisdom of groups to address a number of over-arching questions of relevance to the people present in the room.

The questions will be related to the people and projects we have individually encountered which inspire us to create a more sustainable practice in our life and work. This will be an invaluable opportunity to meet and share with other designers, theatre makers, producing and receiving houses and to follow a line of enquiry in an open, honest and structured manner.

The World Café methodology is a simple, effective, and flexible format for hosting large group dialogue.

The World café will be preceded by an introduction to the work of Emergence, the ideas which have inspired it and it’s impact to date on the arts scene in Wales and beyond.

Based on a transcript of an astonishing interview by internationally renowned arts commentator Suze Gablik, Doin’ Dirt Time raises questions about the traditional role of the arts in society, as two artists dedicate themselves to a radical new art form: living life as a sacred act.  An experiment in future-oriented, stripped-back theatre performanced by Fern Smith, Philip Ralph and guest artist.

Disappearing Acts & Resurfacing Subjects

The performance considers dance as a disappearing act, an erasure as construct, and questions recurring subjects floating in the public sphere- such as the preservation, ownership, and value of dance itself.

Through image, movement and text, Sara reflects on being a subsidized artist in Europe in the 1990’s, a freelance artist creating site-based projects in Los Angeles, and a selection of responses to her well known Open Letter to Artists. She spins together large themes of legacy in dance, the economic condition of artists, and strategies for making it (including a humorously touching, yet failed, fundraising campaign on Kickstarter), into a digestible, funny and poetic consideration of dance in our time.

Fallen Fruit: SHOW US HOW YOU EAT

Fallen Fruit introduces Show Us How You Eat, a participatory online video project, 2010, and is seeking your videos of eating, up to 60 seconds in length.

Though there are endless images of food in art, and even still images of food in peoples mouths, we realize there is very little documentation of people actually eating. In Show Us How You Eat we solicit participants around the world on YouTube to send us one-minute clips of them eating not preparing, cutting, or cooking, but actually eating, chewing and swallowing food. These clips are combined into an endless stream of smiling mastication, a meditation on the act of eating that connects each and every one of us.

A selection of the videos submitted to Show Us How You Eat will be included in an exhibition, Fallen Fruit Presents The Fruit of LACMA (June 27-November 7, 2010), as part of EATLACMA, a year-long investigation into food, art, culture and politics.

Fallen Fruit Presents EAT LACMA

February–November 2010

EAT LACMA is a year-long investigation into food, art, culture and politics. Fusing the richness of LACMA’s permanent collection with the ephemerality of food and the natural growth cycle, EAT LACMA’s projects consider food as a common ground that explores the social role of art and ritual in community and human relationships. EAT LACMA unfolds seasonally, with artist’s gardens planted and harvested on the museum campus, hands-on public events, and a concurrent exhibition, Fallen Fruit Presents The Fruit of LACMA (June 27-November 7, 2010). It culminates in a day-long event (November 7, 2010) in which over fifty artists and collectives will activate, intervene, and re-imagine the entire museum’s campus and galleries. EAT LACMA is curated by Fallen Fruit—David Burns, Matias Viegener and Austin Young—and LACMA curator Michele Urton.

Green LDI & Aquila’s “Enemy”

Got a nice email from Annie Jacobs over at Showman Fabricators yesterday about their effort to add some green to this year’s LDI. “Showman Fabricators has teamed up with LDI to try to bring the issues of sustainability in our industry to the forefront,” Jacob wrote.

Aquila Theatre presents a Green Tour

I’ve been working on a piece for Jacob Coakley over at Stage Directions about Aquila Theatre’s upcoming touring production of Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People. I’ve spoken with both Peter Meineck, the company’s AD, as well as their Production Manager Nate Terracio. I’ve been very impressed with both of them and their honest, holistic approach to the idea of greening a touring production to the best of their ability. Look for the piece in SD soon, and keep an eye on Aquila’s tour — they might be bringing Enemy to your town. If they do, I’d check it out.
